Anastasia Aliki Farahi
About Annie
Based in South East London, Anastasia creates pieces of work that are inspired by the imperfect complexity and interconnectedness of humanity and nature. 10+ years volunteering and working in homelessness, and a strong yoga and meditation practice, have had a profound impact on the way that she understands people and their roles in the community.
Collections X and Y play on this by amalgamating shapes and patterns to create a larger, more complex piece. Each stroke and each line reflect a person, or a person’s experience. This marking both responds to the one before and impacts the shape/colour/direction of the subsequent. The final result is a piece that displays people and experiences in their collective state. The sum of an individual’s life, is after all, constructed from the accumulation of people they meet, experiences they have and their learnings along the way.
There are four main styles and mediums that Anastasia currently works across, each representing a key area of influence in her life. She was taught to paint by her grandfather, a celebrated botanical and landscape artist. Her architectural line drawing skills were developed during her interior architecture masters, and from working in multiple design firms. Finally her free flowing drawings and paintings (collections X and Y) were inspired by her work with vulnerable adults and her time learning from an artist in India.
The variety across her works represent the sum of these influences and allow her to further demonstrate the concept of accumulation, development and progression.
